What will you learn?

Pathology is a large and diverse field that allows a doctor to participate in multiple areas of the field or focus their scope to a specific area. It is a speciality that focuses on diagnostic work involving tissues, blood and body effluents.

The Master of Pathology programme offered by UM covers comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge to equip graduates with the necessary proficiency to become clinicians who are involved in diagnostic laboratory work and for the field of Forensic Pathology, the involvement with investigations into causes of death and medico legal work.

 

Eligibility:

• National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level equivalent) with the grade 80% and above

Or

• A Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00.

• Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection program before being accepted by the respective faculty.

 Students are required to enrol in the Malay Language Program prior to being conferred a degree.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Students must obtain:

• TOEFL score of 500 (PBT), 173 (CBT) or 60 (IBT) and above

Or

• IELTS Band 5.0 - 6.5 and above

Or

• Pass in any equivalent English proficiency test approved and recognized by the University of Malaya.

Course Details:

Duration: 4 Years Intakes: June

 

Core areas of emphasis:

(A) Anatomical Pathology including Autopsy (B) Haematology including Transfusion Medicine; (C) Chemical Pathology including Immunology; and (D) Medical Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Immunology, Virology) with Parasitology.

 

Career prospects:

Graduates are trained and can serve as: • Diagnostic laboratory clinicians (haematology, chemical pathology, anatomical pathology, medical microbiology). • Forensic Pathologists (forensic pathology). • Academic pathologists. • Research pathologists.
