Batik is one of the Malaysian traditional crafts. It is a process of wax and dye penetration on fabric also known as the wax-resist method. The usage of different media such as dyestuff, fabric embellishment and the batik implementation create different textures and effects.
The course provides an intellectual, creative environment and encourages critical debate to help focus and contextualize the work, discovering and developing individual potential. Strong emphasis is placed on visual research, drawing for design and concept development. The curriculum covers the history and the development of batik, marketing, branding, artistic skills and creative ideas. The diploma itself offers a structured career path and with a shortage of batik designers at all levels, career prospects are excellent.
